What is Resonant Voice and Why Does it Matter

Have you ever noticed that when you’re grounded, truly grounded in a receptive stillness, your voice has a different timbre/resonance/vibrational quality than when you’re chatting or connecting or being emotional. We speak more slowly and our voice has a deeper tonal quality when we are grounded.  We can almost detect the thoughtfulness, the quiet responsiveness that is part of being grounded in our voices themselves.

The corollary is that when we are contracted in our Enneagram type, our voices are tighter, even thinner. Contracted, we have limited access to the wisdom of each of our centres, our head, heart and belly.  And as important, when we are contracted, it is not possible to access the wisdom and gifts of our Essence, our deepest Being.

We can work with this in a number of ways.  The quality of our voices can tell us whether or not we are grounded or contracted.  It is a clue.  It is a valuable part of learning to notice our contracted type in action.  And, the quality of others’ voices tells us how contracted or open they are.

Speaking from a more grounded resonant voice effects the quality of our interactions with people.  For example, if we want to be more open to a heart-centred connection, we can move into a more open, relational voice.  We can track our own reactivity, by paying attention to the quality of our voice in a conversation.  If we sense we are contracting, we can intentionally breathe, slow down our speech and deepen the vibrational quality of our voices to help us move return to a more grounded place.

As we are able to be more grounded, we can address our centres internally with the quieter, more resonant voice and then receive the wisdom of each of our centres, which helps us respond to issues we face or make the decisions we need to make.  This is a beautiful way to begin to appreciate the different kinds of wisdom we hold in our Beings.  And when we are able to live from an integrated place, we can access the wisdom of our Being, the deepest part of ourselves and be more open to hearing and responding through Divine guidance.
