Some spiritual teachers suggest that the virtues are a form of subtle energy, that love, joy, faith, kindness all have a tangible, if subtle, material form. And so, their expression has an impact on life as it unfolds on this plane, on this magnificent earth. Cynthia Bourgeault, Teilhard de Chardin, Gurdjieff all come to mind.
With this in mind, I am offering a somatic weekend with a focus on opening to our Virtues, as understood within the Enneagram. Each type has what is called a Vice – an emotional habit that colours our life more than we know – Sandra Maitri calls it the inner atmosphere that pervades our life. We can become conscious of our Vice and work with it in a way that lessens its impact, opening the door to our Virtue’s natural expression. Or, we can also intentionally turn to our Virtue.
Helen Palmer stresses the importance of this conversion in our energy – the vice to virtue conversion. We will approach this somatically. For me, this is the way that most enables deep change, lasting change in our energetic and spiritual reality.
